Maya Update 1

Five more down...

Some more modelling work done

I started modelling surely one of the most complicated static meshes on my to-do list, and that's the pool table that will be found in the bar. I've completed modelling it, just need to texture it now.

If I do go into the game industry, I'd probably go into level/asset design, so I want to focus on my level, making sure that it looks as realistic as possible.

Bar

With the dissertation out of the way I can really focus on building my level. One of the rooms in the villa is a small bar. I'd like to build one much like the one in Family Guy. I've made a list of static meshes that need to be made and I'm going to make a start right now...

Simple Menu

I've been working in Flash and UDK to try and get a simple menu working with my game. I don't have a video of it at the moment but this is what I've produced so far....

Menu working in-game

When the map loads, the menu pops up with three buttons. One labelled "Play Level", one labelled "Customise" and the other labelled "Options". Only one button has a function at the moment, and that's the "Play Level" button. It currently loads a map. In addition, when the cursor rolls over a button it changes colour to blue.

Scaleform

It was a very slow Christmas with regards to the FMP, due to a lot of dissertation work and a lot of....... alcohol.

Instead of just waiting around for help with customisation from forums, I'm going to start making a menu for my game tomorrow, with the help of YouTube tutorials such as this one...

Scaleform UDK Tutorials

Cursed Development

As I'm relatively useless when it comes to scripting, I've been looking all over forums for advice on where to start and I've come across numerous posts saying that character customisation can't be done in UDK, though I've seen video evidence of it been done...

The video I found before of the indie project called 'Genesis' is what I'm referring to. I've messaged the owner of the channel multiple times and commented on the video asking for some sort of help, but have had no reply, though I think I found their new YouTube channel, and I've recently messaged them on that one.

In the meantime I'll be looking at their blog at www.CursedDevelopment.com, where, much like I'm doing with my game, they've documented everything they've done. Hopefully I can find some sort of direction or find a way to contact them.

Suburban House

Using the plans for a typical american suburban house, I began building the houses that would surround the villa in the suburban area.

At the moment I've only built one type of house that has no walls inside, as I don't plan to let the player go inside them right now. I might make alternate houses, depending on how much time I have.

The finished house should be a similar style to this one...

'MI3: Ghost Protocol' app

Singular Inversions, the creators of FaceGen have provided their technology for a new promotional app for the new Mission Impossible movie...

http://www.missionimpossible.com/intl/uk/maskmaker/

The app requires the user to upload a photo of themself or take a picture with their webcam. From here it will detect the persons key facial points. Though the app doesn't create a 3D model of the persons head, it just lays the photo texture over a premade head.
